Who is at risk of developing glaucoma?
Anyone can develop glaucoma but some people are at more risk than others.
Glaucoma is more common in:
• Older people
• People of African-Caribbean descent
• Short-sighted people
• People with a close relative diagnosed with glaucoma
• People with diabetes
If you think you may be at risk, you should arrange to have a professional eye examination. In most cases, with the regular use of eye drops glaucoma can be treated, protecting the optic nerve from further damage and preventing or reducing the risk of further loss of sight.
